Time to Change Wales is the first national campaign to end the stigma and discrimination faced by people with mental health problems. It aims to improve knowledge and understanding about mental illness, diminish the stigma and discrimination that surrounds it, and, most importantly of all, get people talking about mental health.
The campaign is delivered by Hafal in partnership with Mind Cymru.
Time to Change Wales is vitally needed because although mental health problems are very common, they can still be a taboo subject. People who experience mental illness often face stigma in the workplace, socially and within families. This can make life with a mental health problem even more difficult.
Time to Change Wales works in many aspects to raise awareness and reduce discrimination:
- Young People & Schools
We work with schools across Wales to change the way young people, parents and teachers think and act about mental health.
We empower people with experience of mental health problems to become ‘Educators’, delivering anti-stigma training and telling their stories.
- Getting mental health on the agenda
We work with politicians and the press to get mental health on the agenda in Wales.
We run high-profile media campaigns to change attitudes towards people with mental health problems in Wales.
In March 2018 it was announced that Time to Change Wales would continue to build on its success over the next three years thanks to new support from the Welsh Government and Comic Relief.
The new funding of £960,262 will be used to continue to support the work done by people in every part of the country to share experiences of their own mental health problems and to work with employers, communities and groups to improve awareness and change behaviour.
