Hafal Chief Executive Bill Walden-Jones has described our National Physical Health Awareness Day, which took place at Neath Sports Centre on July 8th, as the best in the event's history.

The aim of sports day was to give people with a serious mental illness and their carers from across Wales the opportunity to compete in a number of events (including five-a-side football, boules, volleyball and Tai Chi) and to highlight how maintaining physical health is a key part of recovering from mental illness.

Writing on his blog, Mr Walden-Jones stated that: "Hafal's Sports Day was the best ever with over 200 attending including not only clients of Hafal projects but other service users with acute needs who flourished in the sunshine and got stuck in enthusiastically to the volleyball, soccer, welly-whanging and a host of other challenging activities."

Mr Walden-Jones said he has resolved to extend an invitation to next year's sports event to other acute services so that statutory and private sector hospitals can organise accompanying staff.
