Hafal, Wales’ leading organisation supporting individuals recovering from mental health issues and their families, has teamed up with Ospreys stars Lloyd Ashley and Scott Otten to host a free ‘coffee and biscuits’ session at the region’s training ground in Llandarcy next week.
A senior player at his home region with more than 120 Ospreys appearances to his name, Ashley linked up with Hafal earlier this year when he became Young People’s Ambassador, championing the organisation’s work for young people across Wales affected by mental illness and campaigning for improved services and support.
Now, recognising the growing concerns about mental health issues in society and, in particular, how loneliness and isolation can be a catalyst, Ashley has joined forces with his Ospreys colleague and owner of SO Coffee Trades, Scott Otten, to host this special event at the Pavilion, Llandarcy Academy of Sport between 4 and 6.30pm on Monday 29th July.
Better known as the Ospreys team room, where players meet and chat over a coffee and a bite to eat before, during and after each working day, the doors to the Pavilion are being thrown open to everyone in the public, Ospreys supporters or not, to come together, enjoy free coffee and biscuits, and have that all important chat.
Lloyd and Scott are expecting to be joined for a coffee by some of their Ospreys team-mates, and Lloyd said he’s hoping that there’ll be plenty of members of the public joining them as well:
“Whether you are young or old, more and more studies are clearly showing that social isolation and loneliness is a key contributor to mental health issues.
“Anything which encourages people to get out, meet with other people and socialise has to be a good thing. I’m thrilled that Scott, through SO Coffee, and the Pavilion, have agreed to help Hafal by supporting this new initiative, providing free coffee and biscuits to everyone who joins us next Monday.
“It’ll be a great opportunity for anyone who feels isolated or lonely to come and make new friends, while anyone who wants to know more about Hafal and the work we do are also more than welcome. I look forward to seeing you on Monday 29th July!”
