Movin’ On Up – celebration at World Mental Health Day Senedd event

World Mental Health Day was celebrated at the Senedd earlier today as the culmination of “Movin’ On Up”, the summer-long national campaign led by mental health service users and carers and supported by mental health charities Hafal, Bipolar UK and the Mental Health Foundation.
As well as Assembly Members the event was attended by a large contingent of service users and carers from across Wales, plus key mental health professionals.

Hafal WCVA-funded Expert Patient Presenters awarded

Volunteers from Hafal’s WCVA-funded Expert Patient Presenter (EPP) programme were presented with Agored Cymru’s ‘Speaking with Confidence’ certificates of qualification at an award/networking event held in Hafal Head Office this week.

Movin’ On Up’ campaign peaks at Snowdon

The ‘Movin’ On Up’ campaign peaked in spectacular style today when 100 mental health service users, carers and professionals from Bipolar UK, Hafal and the Mental Health Foundation – along with intrepid members of statutory agencies from across Wales – climbed Snowdon, the highest mountain in England and Wales.

“Work Capability Assessment remains an ineffective process”

A third Review of the Work Capability Assessment (WCA) is being undertaken by UK government adviser Professor Malcolm Harrington. The WCA was first introduced in October 2008 to assess entitlement to Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), and the Welfare Reform Act 2007 commits the Secretary of State to lay an independent report before Parliament each year for the first five years of operation.
