New Conservative Shadow Minister for Health and Social Services pledges support to Hafal.

Hafal recently met with the newly appointed Welsh Assembly Government Shadow Minister for Health and Social Services, Andrew R.T. Davies, AM.

Andrew RT Davies and Hafal Campaigns Manager, John Abbott

Mr Davies, Assembly Member for South Wales Central, succeeded Jonathan Morgan AM in the role in late February and the meeting provided an opportunity for Mr Davies to be appraised of Hafal’s current work in progress and key campaigning issues.

Mr Davies stated that with regard to the newly restructured NHS it would be vital to have a clear direction on responsibility for mental health issues across Wales within the new structure and gave his full support to the work Hafal performs.

Mr Davies also pledged his support to his predecessor’s Mental Health LCO, which will eventually help transfer law-making powers from Parliament to the Assembly in relation to patients’ rights to early treatment and advocacy.

Mr Davies readily accepted to meet with Hafal on a regular basis so that he may be kept fully appraised on how the delivery of mental health services and policies in Wales impacts upon those affected by serious mental illness.
