The new group, which will operate within the MHRN-C, will comprise of a number of service users and carers keen to highlight the value and likely outcomes of peer-led research into mental health in Wales.

The group was supported in its application by Dr Anne Fothergill, Principal Lecturer in Mental Health at the University of Glamorgan and Christine Wilson, Research Fellow at the same university.

The new research collective will be facilitated by John Abbott, Campaign Manager at Hafal, Wales’ leading charity for people with serious mental illness and their carers (and also the lead for user and carer participation at MHRN-C). Additional academic support for the new group will be available from within MHRN-C.

Commenting on the news John Abbott said: “The new research group will be rolling out their requests for membership and support across the whole of Wales and whilst there are numerous hurdles yet to cross, it is hoped that additional funding can be secured to facilitate strengthening the group and commencing useful Health and Social Care Research in Mental Health in Wales by the end of the year.”
